How to Perform Weekly Pool Maintenance in 6 Steps?

Are you a pool owner? If so, then you know that maintaining your pool is essential to keeping it in good condition. Luckily, performing weekly maintenance is relatively easy and only takes a few steps. In this article, we will walk you through the six steps necessary for completing weekly pool maintenance. Keep reading to learn more!

How to Perform Weekly Pool Maintenance in 6 Steps?

1. Maintain The Chemical Balance Of The Pool Water

According to the CDC, "Chlorine is a safe and effective way to keep your pool water clean. When chlorine combines with sweat, urine or other chemicals that enter the water it produces irritants called chloramines." Chlorine in an unstable form can cause irritation when mixing with body fluids such as perspiration, mucus from a person's lungs, etc., which makes having balanced chemical levels extremely important for swimmers' health.

Testing the chemicals in the water in your pool allows you to perform weekly maintenance more effectively by making adjustments as needed throughout the week. Without regular chemical balancing tests it can be very difficult or near impossible to detect any changes that occur which could lead to harmful conditions like cloudy water, algae growth, irritants on the skin causing rashes and respiratory issues (i.e., asthma), etc.

For these reasons it is recommended to perform routine chemical balance tests and additional weekly spot checks if necessary; especially during periods of heavy usage such as summer months when many people will be using the pool regularly with each other's skin contact.

2. When Doing Weekly Pool Maintenance, Keep A Steady Water Level

Maintaining a constant water level is important when performing weekly pool maintenance because it helps to ensure that the equipment and filters are working properly. If the water level is too high or low, it can cause damage to the equipment and filters. By keeping the water level consistent, you can help to avoid any unnecessary repairs or replacements.

3. Make Sure To Remove Any Debris From Your Pool

Debris can cause blockage in the pool's filtration system. This means that the water will not be filtered properly, leading to poor cleaning and less than desirable results for you or your guests when they swim in it.

Additionally, if there is too much debris buildup on top of the liner inside of your pool, this could lead to permanent damage over time including tears and rips which would need costly repairs down the road.

Finally, having a clean filter goes hand-in-hand with how often you perform weekly maintenance because without proper filtering then any other efforts are pointless since dirty water isn't being cleaned before returning back into your pool.

4. It Is Important To Vacuum And Filter Your Pool

It's important to vacuum and filter your pool weekly in order to keep it clean and free of debris. If you don't perform regular maintenance, the water can become cloudy and full of algae. This can make swimming uncomfortable and even dangerous. How do you vacuum and filter your pool?

  • Vacuum the entire pool using a standard vacuum head. Be sure to get into all the corners and along the edges.

  • Filter the water using a pump and filter system. Run the pump for at least four hours per day to ensure that the water is clean and clear.

  • Keep an eye on the condition of the pool and make any necessary adjustments.

You'll want to perform some light brushing around all parts of your swimming area, including walls and flooring surfaces. Be sure not to use too much pressure when using this tool near sharp objects like rocks or metal beams; otherwise, they may get damaged during the process! Check for cracks on steps and ledges which could lead water seepage into places where it doesn't belong such as under tiles or concrete edging along borders or walls. If any problems are found or if none were found, which is a good sign, then perform some light vacuuming.

5. Backwash And Inspect Your Pool's Filter

A clean filter is important to keep your pool looking its best and functioning properly. A dirty or clogged filter will cause the pump to work harder, resulting in decreased water circulation, poor filtering, and cloudy water.

To check your pool's filter:

  • Shut off the pump and unplug it from the electrical outlet.

  • Remove the lid of the skimmer basket and clear any debris that may be blocking the opening.

  • Look inside the skimmer for a large black cylinder (the filter). If you can't see it, shine a light into the skimmer opening to locate it.

If the filter appears dirty or clogged, you will need to backwash it. Backwashing sand or DE filters involves washing away trapped debris from the inside of the pores in the filters to keep them clean for efficient filtering. This also keeps less sediment circulating through your plumbing system which can lead to clogged pipes, pumps, valves, and other equipment that could potentially break down and corrode at an accelerated rate due to higher than normal wear-and-tear.

Another benefit is that if you perform regular maintenance on your pump or filter, this helps prolong their life so they don't fail prematurely which means no costly repairs! Maintenance costs money, but it's less expensive than repairing or replacing the pump and filter entirely.

6. Prepare Your Pool For The Winter

It really is crucial to perform weekly maintenance during colder weather so that you avoid costly repairs come springtime. Winterizing your pool ensures that it is safe for everyone to use in the spring. In fact, if you don't perform proper winterization, there's a chance that when people go back into your pool after it has been closed over the cold months of winter they could get very sick from bacteria or other contaminants left behind by whoever was using the pool last.

It’s also important because, without the right protection and preparation, any work done on your equipment during this time can be wasted since corrosion will start taking its toll as soon as temperatures rise again next season.

The process of maintaining your pool doesn’t have to be problematic. With these 6 steps, you can keep your pool in tip-top shape all season long!
