Make sure to take the sample from at least waist-deep in the water, and avoid areas near the return jet or where leaves and debris may have collected. Use a clean, empty container like a plastic cup or jar. Fill it up with water and then pour it into your test kit's vial. Make sure you don't touch the sides of the vial with your container, as this can contaminate the sample. Once you have your sample, you're ready to move on to step three.

Step #3: Use the pool's testing kit.
